From Mind to Reality: Why We Built EZ Karera

Mind to Reality is an independent app studio. Our name is the whole job description: take something that only exists as an idea and turn it into something real that people use. EZ Karera is the newest thing we have made. This is why we made it.

It started at the OTB

Anyone who has spent an afternoon at an off-track betting station remembers it. What stays with you is not the money. It is the men. In the first second after the gates open, they re-read the whole race out loud: who broke well, who got bumped, who is going to be there at the end. The program in their hands, the call on the screen and the dividends board on the wall are a whole world.

That world mostly lives in one room in a strip mall, or on a phone screen streaming a single track. We wanted to put all of it in your pocket, with a race always about to go off.

Copy the real thing

From the start, the rule was to copy real karera as closely as we could. The program looks like a program. The bets are the bets you already know, from Win to WTA, set across the card the way a real program sets them. The dividends board looks like the one at the track. The camera follows the race the way a real broadcast does, with the split screen and the replay of the finish.

We studied real race footage, real programs and the PJC's published betting rules, and we built the game around them.

Honest by design

A racing game dies the moment players think it is fixed. So we built EZ Karera so that we never have a reason to fix anything:

• Pari-mutuel pots. We take a fixed cut and the winners split the rest. We never bet against players and never care who wins.
• The race engine never sees the bets. Each race comes from the horses' hidden ability, form and luck. Bets decide what a win pays, never who wins.
• Chips stay chips. They can never be cashed out or turned into prizes. EZ Karera is a game, for adults 18 and over.

Built with the players

EZ Karera is in a closed test on Google Play right now. We put a FEEDBACK button at the top of the lobby, not hidden in a menu, because we want to hear what is wrong while we can still fix it. Every message goes straight to us, and what testers tell us goes into the next update.

What else we make

Before EZ Karera we built Sinta, a Filipino AI companion app where people chat and call in Tagalog, English or Taglish with companions who remember them. Different apps, same idea: build it for Filipinos, in our own language, as close to the real thing as we can.
